About us

Cardiff Tamil School is run by a dedicated team of volunteers from Cardiff, passionate about preserving and promoting the Tamil language and culture among the younger generation who have migrated to the UK.

For the 2024–2025 academic year, we have successfully enrolled 36 students. Due to growing interest from parents, additional students have been waitlisted for the next academic year. Our academic calendar runs from September to the end of June. New students are required to take an evaluation test at the beginning of the year to help us place them in the appropriate grade level.

Classes are held every Sunday from 4:00 PM to 5:30 PM at Pontprennau Primary School in Pontprennau, Cardiff. We charge a nominal annual fee of £150, which goes towards covering hall rental costs and organizing cultural events. All payments are made via online banking for convenience and transparency.

In addition to language instruction, we are committed to celebrating Tamil heritage through various cultural events. We host Tamil-oriented programs throughout the year, including celebrations for Pongal, Tamil New Year, Sports Day, and our Annual Day.

International Tamil Academy

Cardiff Tamil School is proudly affiliated with the International Tamil Academy (ITA), headquartered in California. ITA provides our school with the curriculum, textbooks, test papers, and academic guidelines to ensure a consistent and high-quality learning experience.

All parents are required to register their children with ITA. Once registered, parents can track their child’s academic progress directly through the ITA online portal.

Student assessment is based on a combination of factors. Attendance (10%), class participation (10%), and homework completion (10%) together contribute to 30% of the overall marks. These elements are crucial in evaluating a student’s engagement and commitment throughout the year.

From Grade 1 onwards, students will take part in monthly tests and project submissions, which help reinforce learning and encourage independent work.

The final examinations are held in June, after which students receive a Grade Completion Certificate and are promoted to the next academic level.
